Canadian Experience Class

Canadian Experience Class Overview

Individuals who have worked in Canada and seek to live permanently in Canada with their accompanying dependents may be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency under the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates who have spent substantial time studying and working in Canada are eligible for the Canada Experience Class program, which honors the contributions to Canada of candidates who have spent significant time studying and working in Canada. It acknowledges their contributions to the Canadian economy as well as their forging of strong bonds with Canadian society. This boosts Canada’s permanent residency programs.

Requirements

Eligibility for permanent residency under this class is determined on a pass-fail basis, with the following key criteria:

  • The candidate has completed 12 months of full-time work in an occupation classified by the National Occupation Classification as Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B (NOC). Managerial, professional, technical, and skilled craft vocations are all eligible.
  • The candidate displays appropriate fluency in one of Canada’s official languages;
    • The qualifying Canadian work experience was obtained during the 36 months immediately preceding the date of application.
  • The required level of proficiency is established by the occupation in which the candidate earned qualifying Canadian work experience;
  • The candidate is not barred from entering Canada due to medical, criminal, or security reasons.

Work Experience

Work experience must be full-time and skilled to qualify. 30 hours per week is considered “full-time.” Part-time work will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Six months in a part-time skilled job at 15 hours per week, for example, will count as three months toward the minimum 12. To meet the experience requirement, you might work many part-time jobs at the same time.

Any employment experience gained in Canada without a valid work permit will be disregarded. Periods of self-employment or work experience earned while the candidate was enrolled in a full-time education program will not be considered.

Proof of Language

Minimum score in all four language abilities, namely reading, writing, speaking, and listening, is required. Applicants with qualifying work experience in a NOC Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A occupation must achieve Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7. Applicants with qualifying work experience in a NOC Skill Level B occupation must achieve CLB level 5 requirements.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) have equivalencies between the requisite level of competency in French or English and test results:

The Canadian Experience Class is a great program for people who have gotten a taste of life in Canada and want to settle down here. It is a quick and secure way for qualified people to get permanent residency based on objective criteria. Furthermore, while the individual has proper temporary status, the application can be made from within Canada. In a nutshell, it provides for a smooth transition from temporary to permanent residency in Canada.

The Canadian Experience Class does not apply to foreigners intending to settle in Quebec; but, job experience gained in that province can be used to complete CEC program requirements if the candidate decides to migrate to another province.
