The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
streamlines the process for skilled foreign nationals to obtain permanent
residency in Canada through employment. Here’s how it works:
For
Employers:
● Designation: Apply to
the relevant province(s) to become a designated employer. This demonstrates
your commitment to supporting newcomers and their families.
● Job
Offer: Find a qualified candidate who meets your needs and the program
criteria.
● Settlement
Plan: Collaborate with a designated settlement service provider to
create a personalized plan for the candidate and their family’s integration
into Canadian life.
● LMIA
Exemption: No need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) if the
candidate meets eligibility requirements.
● Temporary
Work Permit (Optional): Facilitate the candidate’s arrival with a
temporary permit while their permanent residency application is processed.
For
Candidates:

Offer: Secure a valid job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic
Canada.
● Settlement

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
Experience:
● General
Requirement: Have at least 1,560 hours of paid work experience in the
past 5 years. This experience can be full-time, part-time, inside or outside
Canada, but must be legal and documented.
● International
Graduates: If you graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution
in Atlantic Canada with a program lasting at least 2 years, you may be exempt
from the work experience requirement. Specific criteria apply.
Education:
● Job
Offer Level: The required education level depends on the National
Occupational Classification (NOC) category of your job offer:
○ NOC TEER 0 or 1:
One-year post-secondary credential or equivalent.
○ NOC TEER 2, 3, or 4:
Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.
● International
Studies: If you studied outside Canada, an Educational Credential
Assessment (ECA) is required to verify equivalency.
Language:
● Job
Offer Level: The required language proficiency level depends on the NOC
category of your job offer:
○ NOC TEER 0 or 1:
Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique
canadiens (NCLC) level 5.
○ NOC TEER 2, 3, or 4:
Minimum CLB or NCLC level 4.

Testing: Proof of
language proficiency must come from a designated testing organization and be
less than 2 years old at application.
